Water throughout Slovenia ranks among the highest quality in the world. The right to drinking water was inscribed into the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia in 2016.

Article 70a of the Constitution (Right to drinking water):

• Everyone has the right to drinking water.
• Water resources are a public good managed by the state.
• Water resources shall be used sustainably and with priority to supply the population with drinking water and water for household use, and in this part, they are not a market commodity.
• The supply of the population with drinking water and water for household use shall be ensured by the state through self-governing local communities directly and on a non-profit basis.

In Slovenia, water from the public supply system is declared as food and is therefore subject to strict and regular quality controls. Much stricter than bottled water.
