Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea L.) is one of the most well-known medicinal plants. However, its quality largely depends on how it is cultivated and processed – which was the central focus of the doctoral research conducted by the founder of the Dr. Gosar company.
First-hand Expertise
The founder of the company, dr. Borut Gosar, was employed as a young researcher between 2005 and 2010 at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana, where he worked in the field of medicinal plant biotechnology – including active ingredient analysis (HPLC), in vitro immunological tests, and statistical data processing. In 2010, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled "The impact of technological factors on the quality and cultivation possibilities of purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea L.)". This makes him the only person in Slovenia to hold a PhD specifically focusing on this plant.
Why Cultivation is Key to Quality
The content of active substances in Echinacea is not constant – it is influenced by the choice of plant part, the timing and method of harvesting, drying, and the processing method. It is precisely these "technological factors" that were addressed in the doctoral research. Consequently, two seemingly identical Echinacea products can differ significantly in their composition. At Dr. Gosar, we manage the entire process ourselves – from cultivation to extraction.
